More about our journey...

'Bye bye' Scotland, hello Aus! We set off on our exciting new chapter in Aug '23. We landed in Perth on an employer sponsored visa, with our almost 2 and 3 year old kids.

We wasted no time on securing our first rental within 4 weeks SOR, after researching Perth high and low. We attended countless inspections and applied for the one's we loved. We were successful with our applications and made great connections with property managers. We built a solid application method, understanding what landlords & property managers are looking for in a tenant, and we use this knowledge when securing your new home.

'Settling In' No doubt, the transition stage to adapting to life in Aus hit us hard...

Thoughts of "where do we start?" and "How do we do that?" started right away. It was a steep learning curve, but we got our grasp on it quickly as we navigated which suburbs, which schools and finding a decent rental in a great area. We got the kids settled into sports clubs and our 3 year old son enrolled in Kindy. We had to wait 6 months until he turned 4. We set up our utilities, mobile's, medicare, centrelink, tax file numbers, bank accounts and took it from there!

We continued to settle into 2024, our son started Kindy in our catchment public primary school, but, our 2 year old daughter didn't qualify for Child Care Subsidy because of our visa (482)...

This meant sending her to daycare, which is typically $160 per day without CCS. The aussie schooling system starts at age 4 for Kindy (non mandatory), and age 5 for Pre-primary (mandatory). Thankfully, kids of 482 visa holders are entitled to the same public education as local WA kids as public school fee's have been waived again this year. Keep this in mind if coming on a skilled sponsorship visa with kids under 4.

Unimaginably, it was 'bye bye' Aus and back to Scotland. We left our property on the market in Aug '23 only for the market to rapidly decline...

Our beautiful new build house in one of the most sought-after town's in the UK hadn't sold. Last ditch attempt to stay in Aus was to lease it until the market picked up, but that didn't work out either. Ironically, our rental was put up for sale in Perth, simultaneously, as the owner decided to sell up. The stress was real!

'Bye bye' Scotland, Hello Aus... AGAIN...

6 months of sheer determination to get back on Aussie sand paid off, as we headed back in Oct '24. We couldn't settle in Scotland, it felt like we had failed BUT we picked ourselves back up and headed back to give our dream another go. We were happy to be returning and so grateful to have a second chance.
