More about our journey...

'Bye bye' Scotland, hello Aus! We set off on our exciting new chapter in Aug '23. We landed in Perth on an employer sponsored visa.

We wasted no time on securing our first rental within 4 weeks SOR, after researching Perth high and low. We attended countless inspections and applied for the one's we loved. We were successful on 4/5 applications and we made great connections with many Property Managers. We built a solid application method, learning what Landlords & Property Managers were looking for. One we will utilise in securing your new home.

'Settling In' No doubt, the transition stage to adapting to life in Aus hit us hard...

Thoughts of "where do we start?" and "How do we do that?" started right away. It was a steep learning curve but we got our grasp on it quickly while navigating our new life. We got the kids into sports and our 3 year old son enrolled in Kindy. He had to wait 6 months until he turned 4 from arriving to starting, meaning one income. I had no choice but to be a 'SAHM'. We met amazing new friends, who naturally help and guide on the 'hard stuff' like school enrolment & catchment zones, Centrelink, Medicare. And not forgetting the homesickness.

We continued to settle into 2024, our son started Kindy in our catchment primary school, but, our 2 year old daughter didn't qualify for Child Care Subsidy because of our visa (482)...

This meant we couldn't afford to send her to Daycare on one income (Typically $160 per day without CCS). The aussie schooling system starts at age 4 for Kindy and age 5 for PrePrimary. Our 482 visa thankfully means kids of 482 visa holders are entitled to the same public education as local WA kids. Meaning we don't have school fee's to pay, however, daycare is not included.

Unimaginably, it was 'bye bye' Aus and back to Scotland. We left our property on the market in Aug '23 only for it to rapidly decline...

Our beautiful new build house situated in one of the most saught-after town's in the UK hadn't sold. Last ditch attempt to stay in Aus was to lease it until the market picked up. Our tenant lied on their application and gave 28 days notice, 2 weeks in to the lease. They refused pre-agreed access to viewers' on our doorstep. And the letting agent were no help. Devastatingly, we had to return and cover the mortgage. Ironically, our rental was put up for sale in Aus simultaneously. The stress was real!

'Bye bye' Scotland, Hello Aus... AGAIN...

6 months of sheer determination to get back on Aussie sand paid off, as we headed back in Oct '24. We couldn't settle in Scotland, it felt like we had failed BUT we picked ourselves back up and headed back to give our dream another go. The kids were happy to be returning and our visa was left open for 6 months by working remotely with the same employer. This pic above confirmed the stress was worth it.
